John M. Fugett, MA, LPC, NCC


John Fugett is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor specializing in the treatment of adolescents and adults age 12 and up. John is experienced in individual and couples therapy. He maintains a private practice in Anchorage Alaska.

John has been married 37 years and has raised 3 daughters. Before entering the mental health field John served 10 years in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

With over 25 years experience as a counselor and psychotherapist he is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are working with Couples to help troubled relationships, the treatment of Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, and Anxiety, as well as a variety of other issues effecting individuals and couples

John's focus is helping people improve relationships and recover from mental illness. John has presented at the National GAINS conference on the successful implementation of the APIC model for treatment of ex-offenders in Alaska. He has also presented locally to the National Association of Social Workers, the State Division of Behavioral Health Change Agent Conference and has been a guest speaker at the University of Alaska Anchorage on topics of Recovery and the Value of Peer Support in mental health treatment. John has taught courses in Psychology and Peer Support as an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Prince William Sound Community College and has been an instructor in the use of Motivational Interviewing techniques.

John utilizes a wide range of therapeutic techniques in counseling and psychotherapy with a strong emphasis on Interpersonal Neurobiology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing interventions. John believes that although skill in therapeutic technique is important the key to success in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the individual so emphasis is placed on building rapport and understanding the wants, needs and desires of those with whom he works. His approach involves providing support and practical feedback to help couples and individuals effectively address personal life challenges. He accomplishes this by integrating complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each individual. With compassion and understanding he works with each couple or individual to help build on strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
